Wednesday Wisdom: November 2020

By Bridget Manley

Wednesday Wisdom. Self-care = business care.

November 4, 2020

Hey there, self-employed folks! This is your friendly reminder to ease off the gas and take a break. Your brain and business will thank you.

Chronic stress keeps the body in "fight-or-flight" mode, which impedes the brain's ability to retrieve information stored in memory. It's tough to skillfully manage the barrage of challenges you face as a business owner when you struggle to remember basic information ... like your phone number. (We've been there!)

Put simply, stressed-out brains are bad for business.

We make a point to treat ourselves well, mentally and physically. We clock out at 5 p.m. We eat well and don't skimp on sleep. We know that we operate at peak proficiency when we feel rested and balanced.

What about you? What self-care practices do you use to keep yourself sane?

In this season of gratitude, we're thankful for our network of clients and supporters who have helped us make Ascendant Design and Training a reality.

A special shout-out to the Wyoming Women's Business Center, Kathy Mead Real Estate, and Rooted Local for helping us on our journey this year.

We're also thankful for:

The opportunity to work on interesting and meaningful projects;

Virtual technology that allows us to connect with folks from across town and around the world; and

The ability to grow and learn, even in difficult times.
